Fortunately, we have never had a problem with the health of Koi imports.

However, at the current time there is a hold on imports from Japan and Israel. There seems to be a gill disease that causes the gills to turn white resulting in the deaths of the imported fish as well as any fish they come in contact with, within a very short period of time, in 2-3 days.  Click here to read a scientific paper on gill disease.

No parasite or other treatments have been consistently successful in stopping this disease. It seems to us and many others that it may be viral in nature. It was first noticed in Southern California and seems to be limited to Koi from Japan and Israel.

There is much research going on to identify and eliminate this disease which is causing huge financial and emotional losses.
