Koi Pond Plants

Pond plants (like water lilies) provide cover for Koi:

	prevent Koi sunburn
	reduce algae problems
	lower pond temperature
	help lower evaporation
	lower the day-night temperature differential
	make it harder for predatory birds to easily see them
	provide nice shady areas for Koi to relax in
	catch some of the floating food giving the Koi another shot at it before the filter skimmer gets it
	provide excellent cover for small fry
	and look very nice

Some claim that heavy vegetation may lead to pH swings from day to night, and actually cause oxygen depletion at night time when reverse photosynthesis kicks in. Reverse photosynthesis at night may reduce oxygenation if you do not have enough aeration for the pond.
